You're holding me gently to your chest

As I sit before you

We're watching I Love Lucy in bed...

It's perfect.

I lean my head back against you 

You absently press a kiss to my hair

I smile

Knowing you don't even think about it 

It's reflex at this point.

I slide my fingers through yours

Pulling our hands to my lap 

As I soak in this moment.

You tilt my chin up

Looking at me for a moment 

Before you kiss me, gently 

Your lips meeting mine

In a soft, unhurried sweep.

I never thought I'd find this

This ease, comfort, and peace.

Yet, here we are

Ready to curl up beneath the blankets.

I know tonight I'll fall asleep

Safe in the embrace of your arms

My back pressed tight to your front

With your arm a familiar weight on my waist.

Things were so bad for so long

I ran from you

Ran from everything that vaguely resembled 

Love.

Then

One day

I'd had enough 

Heard from enough people that 

I deserve to be happy

And I finally believed it.

That was the first step

The first step back to me

Back to love 

And who did I find?

You 

Waiting, patient, arms wide

As I collapsed into you

So ready to be done.

You've helped me learn to stand again

You've shown me who I am

Without anyone else's opinions 

You remind me who I was before

But most importantly 

You let me have good and bad days

Holding tight to me regardless

Telling me you'll never run from this

From me.

Just this once....

I think I believe it,
