What I wouldn't give to have you stay.

We should never have worked

You were too dark

I was too skittish

Your brown eyes will haunt me

The depths there unmatched by anyone else.

You managed to bring me to life

To soothe my skittish heart

To make me want to stay,

But 

I couldn't love the hurt from you.

Some wounds run too deep

And yours still lance you in half some nights.

You were never too much for me

The only sentiment I ever wanted from you,

As you gave me every other line in the book -

Unable to give me that 

One.

So I asked for it

But you couldn't...

Couldn't give me that one line

That one assurance,

As though I was asking too much of you 

Despite the hell you'd asked me to endure.

I could have followed you across the world,

Would have too,

Could have given up every shred of myself, 

Almost did too,

And it would never have been enough.
