Catch and Release
I'd never asked for much,
Mostly for you.
But as you're asking for me
I realize with shocking clarity:
Commitment is my kryptonite.
When that happened,
When I began to abhor
Being tied to anyone
Or anything,
I don't know.
But here we are-
You confused
Trying to figure me out,
And me running
As fast as I can from you.
Of course you chase me.
And of course you catch me.
I say I'm sorry for running,
You say it's fine.
But I can see it.
Hidden in those beautiful eyes,
Every time I run,
I see the hurt.
I want to stop running-
Want you to be enough.
And maybe one day,
Just between you and me,
Maybe I'll finally stop running,
Let you hold me,
And it'll be enough.
Mostly for you.
But as you're asking for me
I realize with shocking clarity:
Commitment is my kryptonite.
When that happened,
When I began to abhor
Being tied to anyone
Or anything,
I don't know.
