Balasmo
The tide is quiet
I can hear it swaying gently through the sea grass
Feel the pressure of the waves as they rock against my skin.
Welcome me home,
Invite me in,
I want to lie here forever.
The sunlight dapples on my face
Warmth spreading through me,
From the inside out.
This.
This moment.
Summer sunshine
Waves lapping against my ears
The tug of the current
Pulling me where it wills.
Then suddenly everything changes.
I fall beneath the waves and it's no longer melodic and gentle
This calls for me to respect the power of the water
To treat with caution what it gives
And what it takes away.
I scurry
My limbs flailing as I try to gain purchase.
My hand reaches
Towards that sunlight that just held me so tenderly.
My face breaks the surface
All is calm once more
Yet
As with life
I'll carry this moment with me -
Respecting nature and what she can do
And how powerless we are to stop her.
