Tea Song

I never believed it
Not until now.
That scratchy, off key, song
With lyrics about the woman that left
Transports me back to an afternoon spent
Watching you paint-
Your hair swept up into a bun
A loose flannel on
A paintbrush between your lips
And errant paint drying on your hand.
You'd never seemed so content
So at peace.
And my heart stopped
As I realized
This was it.
I was helplessly in love with you.

And as I hear that same song now,
I realize that the love I thought I knew
Is nothing compared to what we have today.
That song brings me to my knees
As I realize
How much further I have fallen
In love with you.
And I want it,
All of it,
With you.
I've never been more sure of anything.
I want weddings,
Babies,
Houses,
Vacations...
I want you,
In every way,
For the rest of my life.

And no one else seems to get
How at this moment
We are suddenly gods,
Outside of time,
Creating our own world
As this song plays.
And yet,
So they say at least,
This happens to everyone.
I never believed it before,
But here we are.

And if we are gods,
Here in these next few minutes,
Let me make a universe-
You in the center,
The heart of it all,
As I create a cosmology of 2,
To show you how strong
My love for you can be.
