Fire
She had been born
With fire inside her veins,
Speaking her truth
And picking fights
Just to hide the pain.
Because for all the ways
She did fit in,
She managed to stand out,
And as the years went on,
She was asked to put her fire out.
Tempered by age,
She learned to build up walls,
So they would never guess,
That all that fire,
Hadn't gone away,
It ate at her instead.
With fire inside her veins,
Speaking her truth
And picking fights
Just to hide the pain.
Because for all the ways
She did fit in,
She managed to stand out,
And as the years went on,
She was asked to put her fire out.
Tempered by age,
She learned to build up walls,
So they would never guess,
That all that fire,
Hadn't gone away,
It ate at her instead.
