Commitment

"It's you and me"
He whispered low
As he placed my hand
On his tattooed chest.

This was our moment.
Just him and I,
As he spoke once more,
"Forget everyone else."

"Let me love you,
Inside and out"
He dropped to his knee
And I couldn't resist.

I wanted him,
Needed him,
But was so scared
We might not work.

I was broken,
In more ways
Than he could possibly repair,
But still he was here.

"Tell me you're mine,
And I am yours."
His eyes searched mine,
And I stood fast.

I didn't want to be hurt,
But I trusted him,
Believed him,
As I whispered:

"Yes."

Quick as an asp,
He rose and lifted me up,
Safe in his strong embrace,
As he spun me around.

His lips brushed mine,
And there was no sweeter bliss,
As I memorized this feeling
I knew I was in trouble.

I could never have let him go before
Despite how skittish my traitorous heart was.
I would give anything for him,
Including my sanity, it seemed.

From there,
Everything faded away...
It became just him and I,
And I couldn't ask for more.

I would trust him,
Only him,
To keep me together
When I inevitably fell apart.

And I would be here,
Despite my bouts of lunacy,
To be all I could for this man,
This man that gave me everything.
