Hold the Burn
My heart is breaking
Seeing two former lovers
Standing across from one another
While pretending they don't feel a thing.
I can see it,
The cold indifference written across their faces,
While at the same time,
Glimpses of the buried connection,
That no amount of time can seem to extinguish.
And as he descends into his glass,
His emotions more apparent than hers,
She turns away,
And for that split moment,
They're no more than the rest of us,
Trying to find a place in this world that doesn't hurt.
